Wampum was for its first peoples in the North East of a sacred value. The shell pearls were woven into belts with a specific design to symbolize agreements and treaties between peoples and nations. The “treaty” belts hold the “intent” of the parties from the heart.
This initiative its objective is to “weave” again a belt to renew, or rekindle, the relationship with the First Peoples of the North East of America called Turtle Island by its native peoples, and the Dutch and to reconcile, condolance, to come to terms with the past and move forward together in friendship, with respect and in pace into the future.
